BEIJING (AP) ? A popular Communist Party-backed newspaper is urging China's leadership to get more information from former defense contractor Edward Snowden rather than send him back to the U.S., because his revelations about secret U.S. surveillance programs concern China's national interest.
The Global Times newspaper said in an editorial Friday that the Chinese government should not only consider Beijing's relations with the United States but also domestic public opinion, which the paper says would be unhappy if Snowden were sent back.
The Chinese paper known for nationalist views says Snowden could offer intelligence that can help China update its understanding of cyberspace.
Snowden alleged in an interview with a Hong Kong newspaper that the U.S. National Security Agency's 61,000 hacking targets around the world include hundreds in Hong Kong and mainland China.

A cup of Omega Oil from the Let the Good Times Roll Festival
1) Omega Oil Cocktails (also known as ?Que Brew,? with a historical cocktail antecedent known as ?Purple Jesus?) Right off of the bat, I should point out that this is a potent alcoholic beverage, and should only be consumed responsibly by those ages 21 and up. To state it as plainly as possible: Omega Oil is a legendary fraternity house punch with a refreshing, easy-drinking nature that disguises its strength. A little dab, as they say, will do you.
2) Sweet Jones? Stuffed Shrimp The current (May/June 2013) issue of Louisiana Kitchen & Culture magazine features a history of the Shreveport-style stuffed shrimp, which has its origins in the kitchen of Shreveport?s Freeman and Harris Cafe. While Freeman and Harris Cafe ? one of the first black-owned restaurants in the United States ? has long since closed its doors, you can still taste their legacy in these enormous shrimp stuffed with Creole dressing. Everyone has their favorite iteration of this Shreveport delicacy (I really love the C&C Cafe version), but it?s great to be able to eat these at a local festival, since this way of preparing stuffed shrimp really is an intensely local thing.
3) Smoked Turkey Legs Marinated in Rho Omega Sauce It?s going to be embarrassing, but go ahead and commit yourself to eating an enormous, juicy smoked turkey leg. You may want to stake out a nearby table and a pile of napkins prior to joining the line in front of the smoke-filled trailer that sells these delicious things, because from the moment it?s placed in your hand, it will be a delicious burden that prevents you from doing anything else but eating.
Wild Card: Fried Pork Spare Ribs At last year?s Let the Good Times Roll Festival, the best thing that I ate was a fried pork spare rib from the family that once ran Era?s Turkey Leg Express on Market Street. Era?s is closed now (the building now houses an intriguing-looking place called Rib Tip Express), and the family has relocated to Houston. I?m not sure if this vendor will be back for the 2013 festival. If they do return, rib lovers are going to want to make it a point to try these tender, salt and pepper-spiced ribs.

Hey! Jeyne -- errr, Talisa -- wasn't supposed to be at the Red Wedding!
If you're still reeling from the "Game of Thrones" Red Wedding, steel yourself: One episode remains in the HBO fantasy's third season, and the finale could deal even more devastating blows to our already fragile psyches.
But even though the series is adapted from George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" fantasy novels, the show runners are deviating enough from his original story and timelines to keep even devoted readers guessing.
Here's a rundown of the major differences this season -- and what they could mean for Sunday's finale, "Mhysa." (More on the title's significance below.)
Baby-mama drama: The most gruesome, shocking scene in the wedding massacre -- the frenzied stabbing in the gut of Robb's pregnant queen -- never happened in "A Storm of Swords." In fact, "Talisa" (she was Jeyne Westerling in the books, with a different history altogether), wasn't even in attendance. Other than heightening the scene's drama and heartbreak, Talisa's murder probably won't change the story line that much, but it will definitely intensify the backlash and the Stark supporters' thirst for revenge.
Bloody face: What the writers giveth, they taketh away. While Talisa's gut-wrenching (sorry) death scene was made out of whole cloth (or, if you will, chain mail), "The Rains of Castamere" spared us from the madness of Catelyn. In fact, she went so bonkers after her eldest son's murder that she gouges her own face. To quote author George R.R. Martin, "tearing off strips of flesh, leaving deep furrows that ran red with blood." (This is a perplexing omission, considering what is to come.)
Slings and arrows: Joffrey is a monstrous, vicious psychopath and sadist, but in the books he never practiced his toy crossbow on prostitutes. This kid really needs a time out, and Tywin might give him one in their finale showdown.
Spirited away: Melisandre's kidnapping of Gendry never happened in the books. Her motives at this point are unclear, but we wager they have less to do with his blacksmithing skills than the fact that he's Robert Baratheon's bastard son -- and living proof for Stannis that Joffrey and his sibs aren't legitimate heirs to the Iron Throne. (On account of Uncle Jaime being their dad and all.) Melisandre's face time with Arya Stark never happened on the page either, but it's unlikely their meeting will be addressed until season four.
Run like the (Grey) Wind: During the Red Wedding, Robb's direwolf was murdered in captivity while Arya looked on. In the books, she never got that close, and Grey Wind was released from his stable -- inflicting some major damage before he was shot down. Maybe HBO didn't have any room left in the CGI budget for the direwolf's heroism? Or could this omission indicate their choice not to depict the Freys' horrifying "postmortem" of the King in the North? (It could still happen in the finale, so be warned: It's unspeakably gruesome.)

Poor Theon's getting it much worse on the show than in the books.
Torture chamber: Theon's tiresome, gratuitous "Hostel"-style torture scenes warranted only a very peripheral mention -- sans gruesome details -- in the third book. In fact, the show really steps on the gas when compared to the former Winterfell hostage's story in "A Song of Ice and Fire." The tale of the torturer's identity, and the new one Martin creates for Theon, isn't told until the fifth book ("A Dance With Dragons"), but considering how much airtime they devoted this season, it's possible it will be bumped up all the way to Sunday's finale.
You know nothing: Jon Snow is virtually unscathed (besides a few eagle scratches) when he abandons Ygritte in episode nine. Her reaction in "Swords" is more befitting of a wildling than her struck-dumb TV counterpart: She shoots him in the leg with an arrow as he flees. From the preview we know that Ygritte returns in the finale -- but will she stick around for season four after his betrayal?
Storming the city: While the writers dialed up the graphic horror of the Red Wedding and Theon's torture, they showed some restraint when Khaleesi's men stole into Yunkai. In the book series, they gain entry via the town's sewers. That's some real devotion to their queen!

All hail the Mother of Dragons!
Mother tongue: Now back to the finale's title. "Mhysa" presumably refers to Daenerys' successful taking of Yunkai, a Ghiscari slaver city-state. When the city's slaves shout "Mhysa" to the Mother of Dragons in "A Storm of Swords," her translator Missandei explains, "It is Ghiscari, the old pure tongue. It means 'Mother.' "
Could it also refer to Catelyn Stark, Melisandre or even Talisa? We'll find out Sunday -- or next season!

It's like magic distilled from squeezed rainbow unicorn ponies sandwiched between glass and metal.
When a person feels angry, it?s generally the result of a deeper emotion such as embarrassment, rejection, anxiety, or hurt. It is normal for something that someone has said or done to make you angry once in a while, but if you find that you are angry all the time, it?s time to make a change. This doesn?t mean you need to completely overhaul your entire life. Instead, you can take the time to learn better coping skills to help you manage your anger so when a trigger arises, you can rationally respond to it rather than react.
Simply willing yourself to stop getting so angry isn?t a long-term solution. Rather, there are a number of research-based tools that a person can learn to employ to gain control of his or her anger. It?s the same idea as improving your skills at a sport. You focus on the topic at hand; learn the proper techniques to succeed from a trained professional, and practice, practice, practice. It might take a while, but with serious desire and commitment, you will end up improving and succeeding.
One solution to overcoming your angry behavior is to take a cognitive therapy based anger control course to learn how to do accomplish this goal. Anger management classes can be highly beneficial for many reasons. First, they teach participants how to deal with stress by identifying what is causing it and addressing the emotion with specific stress reduction tips. Furthermore, individuals learn how to increase their empathy to better listen and communicate with others on a daily basis. Online anger programs also address negative thoughts you might have about yourself. Changing the way you interpret certain situations in a more positive light is an important component of anger control.
The most convenient, educational and flexible way to learn these skills is to take an anger management course online. With any Internet connected computer device such as a Smartphone, Tablet, PC or laptop, you can enroll and take a class at any time of the day or night. This format alleviates the stress of having to miss work, school or family time to drive miles away to make a traditional weekly in-person program.
Online anger management classes are available to take for self-improvement as well as court ordered requirements. It is suggested that participants get prior approval from the judge, probation officer or attorney, to take an online class to fulfill their specific court order. Once approved, the participant can login and out at his own pace. This gives the client the ability to finish the course in one day or over a weekend if a deadline is looming. Once the client finishes the course, a Certificate of Completion is sent out to the address specified. This documentation proves to the court system that the mandate was successfully fulfilled.

Nanyang Technological University (NTU) students have developed new and practical life-saving innovations inspired from everyday problems, including improving the safety of cyclists on the roads and keeping the dengue menace in check.
A near collision alarm system fitted with an ultrasonic sensor and LED lights, "BikeSense," will alert the cyclist via a beeping alarm, when a vehicle is too close for comfort. At the same time, the system will flash a red light at the rear of the bicycle, to catch the drivers' attention and to warn them to keep at a safe distance.
Another group of students have come up with an auto-close drain cover which will block mosquitoes from entering the drain to breed, while allowing a large amount of water to flow through during heavy downpours. Named "Block-It-Out", the idea arose from the rising epidemic of dengue fever which Singapore is now experiencing.
Other practical inventions include overcoming the problem of domestic helpers falling from high floors and preventing soldiers collapsing from heat strokes.
The "WiseWindow" is a window which can swivel, allowing you to clean both the inside and outside of the window at the same time without risk of leaning out of the window. The invention will not only save time, but more importantly it promotes safety and is elderly friendly.
A heat alarm mounted on a soldier's vest it expected to help prevent heat-related injuries such as heat strokes, which may led to death in serious cases. Named the "Health Emergency Alarm Thermometer System" (HEATS), the device will light up if the soldier's body temperature rises above the norm, which is an early indication of dehydration and heat injury.
These safety devices are some of the winners at the 15th Engineering, Innovation and Design (EID) Open House and competition held on Saturday, 18 May, at NTU, which saw 79 student teams taking part.
EID Chairman, Associate Professor Rajesh Piplani, said many of the students have been inspired to improve and save lives of people after reading the many reports in the media of accident-related deaths.
"Recently, there have been reports of fatalities involving cyclists and also accidents involving pickup trucks, people suffering from heat injuries during training and workplace falls, which students are made aware of and are encouraged to develop solutions for," said Prof Piplani.
"Creating innovative devices which overcomes real problems is an integral part of the education process at NTU, because we want to instil a sense of responsibility in our students, pushing them to think out of the box while having to employ engineering concepts and knowledge learnt in classes. The process of applying theoretical knowledge is not easily taught, so NTU's Engineering, Innovation and Design course gives them the chance to learn such skills through hands-on work."
The annual event showcases prototypes designed and built by Year Two students from the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, who have taken the EID course as part of their curriculum. EID requires students to identify a real life problem, devise a solution for it, and develop a prototype and a business plan to market the idea.
This year 580 students submitted projects in five categories: Lifestyle, Design & Innovation, Energy & Environment, Health & Assistive Technology, and Safety & Security. In each category, the top teams bag cash prizes of $1,200, $800, and $500 for the first, second, and third place respectively.
For the Safety & Security category, BikeSense and WiseWindow won first and second prize respectively. HEATS won second prize in the Health & Assistive Technology while Block-It-Out also won the second prize in the Energy and Environment Category.
Teams are judged by alumni engineers and industry players, based on potential market value, technological innovation, cost (development and material) and the 'X-factor'. ST Engineering is the event's sponsor.

Women all over the world are reacting to actress Angelina Jolie's revelation today (May 14) that she has undergone a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery.

The emotions, as seen in the comments section of Jolie's op-ed in the New York Times, range from gratitude to Jolie for telling her story, to feeling "braver" about approaching a breast cancer diagnosis or treatment, to those who lament that the care that Jolie received may not be available to all women.
In Jolie's piece, she revealed that she has a "faulty" BRCA1 gene that put her at high risk for breast cancer, a disease that claimed her mother's life at age 56. She detailed the reasons for her decision to undergo a double mastectomy several months ago, as well as her feelings now that it's over.
Some commenters on the piece said they were thankful. "Thanks for your story. As a public figure, you may be able to influence someone to take preventative action," despite their fears, one commenter wrote. "Thank you, Angelina, for going public on this most private subject. I applaud your bravery," another said.
The gratitude that some women are expressing to Jolie likely stems from the level of intimacy with her that they now feel, said Dr. Tina Walch, a psychiatrist specializing in women's issues at Zucker Hillside Hospital in Glen Oaks, N.Y.
"She's one of the sexiest women in the world, and now she's approachable, she's normalized. You can see her in your living room," Walch said.
While many women wouldn?t even share such details with acquaintances or co-workers, Jolie has shared her decision with the world. This makes some women feel thankful for her story because they feel they have gained a relationship with her, Walch said.
Some commenters talked about feeling safer. "Thank you for your bravery and strength, Angelina Jolie. You've made me feel less vulnerable as a woman," one wrote. Another said, "I am having a prophylactic bilateral double mastectomy with reconstruction on Wednesday morning ? I've been terrified for weeks ? After reading Ms. Jolie's story told with such grace, a little of the terror has diminished."
The Phillies might, yet again, be without starting catcher Carlos Ruiz for an extended period of time.
Ruiz was lifted from Sunday afternoon?s game against the Reds after straining his right hamstring while running the bases in the bottom of the second inning. Ruiz will presumably be placed on the 15-day disabled list Monday, and Humberto Quintero will likely be called up from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Erik Kratz came on to catch for Ruiz on Sunday and will probably start for the Phillies going forward.
Ruiz, 34, was batting .235/.286/.275 with no homers and nine strikeouts in 56 plate apperances since returning April 28 from his 25-game amphetamine?suspension. Hamstring strains often require 2-4 weeks.
