The Braves are in a favorable position this spring. Their fans, on the other hand, necessarily aren't.
Since the club already knows about 90 percent of their Opening Day roster -- and the spots up for grabs are either bench or bullpen gigs -- it's been pretty slow the past few days for news. Spring Training games started a bit earlier than usual this year with the World Baseball Classic going on, and it seems the Braves will go at least a few more days before making their first round of cuts.
As the Bravos won their third-straight game on Tuesday night with a 2-0 win over the Yankees, there was a scary moment. Dan Uggla, who hasn't hit much of anything this spring, was hit in the back of the neck/head area with an 0-2 fastball. Uggla was clearly not happy about getting buzzed, and after briefly talking with the training staff, he headed for the clubhouse.
Uggla did say in an interview a few minutes after the incident that he was fine, but it's still never a good situation nonetheless. Reports are also indicating the baseball is fine after making contact.
In a bit of more encouraging news, Andrelton Simmons and the Netherlands advanced to the next round in the World Baseball Classic. This does mean the talented shortstop will be away from Braves camp for at least another week, but no one seems too concerned with him not being at Disney.
Atlanta has a scheduled off day on Wednesday before returning to the diamond to take on the Tigers (again) on Thursday evening.

The Yankees' trainer and the Braves' medical personnel consulted outside Atlanta's clubhouse Tuesday night after Dan Uggla had been struck in the back of the head by a pitch thrown by Brandon Pinder, a non-roster right-handed pitcher with the Yankees. They seemed more concerned for the Braves' second baseman than he was.

When the Kingdom of the Netherlands won their World Baseball Classic game Monday, the Braves lost their shortstop for a few more days. Andrelton Simmons remains away. No problem, says manager Fredi Gonzalez. The Braves would prefer to have their 23-year-old shortstop/leadoff man with them. But Gonzalez says he is comfortable without him.
